Andy Greene Returns

Tonight was a special night for Devils fans and players. Not only was it the home opener, it was also the retirement ceremony for former Captain and elite defensemen Andy Greene. The 16 year veteran spent most of his career with the Devils before being traded to the Islanders in 2019. Greene was very excited to sign a one-day contract with the Devils so that he could retire with the team.

When asked how it felt to sign a single day deal he called the moment “surreal,” stating that he knew since mid-August that he was going to retire and that it was only right that he ended his career where it began. The class act then thanked the Devils organization as well as his friends and family, even getting emotional as he was giving his sendoff.

Greene had an amazing career with the Devils, scoring 52 goals and 212 Assists throughout his career. His legacy will be remembered by the fans, as he got a soaring ovation when dropping the puck for the opening face-off. Greene stated that he has been relaxing and has “played golf twice since Wednesday”. With an amazing career Greene has earned nothing but respect from the fans, media, and players.
