Lupe’s Local Listen: Gina Royale

What is there to say about the girl from Blairstown, NJ that strives for it all? Personally, what I can say is, there isn’t anyone else that can clearly captivate the things Gina Royale can do. She’s been making music since her teen years starting with her first EP “Heir” which sparked her first big single “Walk Without Gravity”. Now although this is her first record, I don’t think it’s her best. I think all of them are great personally but a great record close to my heart is her album “Yellow”. It’s the first time we really see Gina shine as a rising singer-songwriter. Very close to the likes of Taylor Swift and Hayley Williams from Paramore, her voice shines through. “March Song” was one of the first times we see Gina speak loudly and proudly on a record about the importance of not only consent, but the value of a woman’s voice. We live in a world where women still don’t feel comfortable enough to tell their story and their truth but artists like Gina Royale are changing the world one power anthem at a time. Her newest single “Admit It” is a rock anthem about someone that didn’t deserve her time nor her energy. Very reminiscent of early 2000’s pop punk. If you enjoy all of this and everything in between, give Gina Royale a try and you won’t regret it.
