“As always, I’m very proud of our students. It never ceases to amaze me what our students can achieve and I am grateful to work with such a dedicated and talented group of students,” says General Manager, Sebastian Escobar. “They put in hard work every day to make accomplishments like this happen and they deserve to be winners.”

Program Director, Vont Leak, earned an incredible five nominations this year including three for his morning show, Morning Commute, where he stands as the longest reigning co-host since his freshman year. Vont also worked tirelessly to redesign Brave New Radio’s website, which was very long overdue for a refresh.

The 2022 nomination for College Radio Station of the Year (over 10,000 students) marks Brave New Radio’s tenth ever nomination in the category, with previous wins in 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018.

“Seeing our hard work with the rebrand being paid off is such a satisfying feeling, and it makes me proud of everybody I’ve worked with in the music department,” says Assistant Music Director, Lana Scheurle. Lana was a core member of the team that helped rebrand Brave New Radio as ‘Jersey’s Home for Alt Hip Hop’ in 2021. As she prepares to complete her final semester at William Paterson, Lana reflected on her time at Brave New Radio. “Ever since getting involved in Brave New Radio, I’ve been able to practice various skills I will be using post-graduation, as well as expressing myself through my favorite artistic medium, which is music.”

During her sophomore year, Isabel Birritteri joined the Brave New Radio News Team, which has been a desolate department for three years. She is now the Assistant News Director and a member of BNR’s Feature News Team which is now IBS award-nominated for their piece on the protests regarding layoffs at William Paterson University. "I am grateful to have been a part of creating this news package my first semester at Brave New Radio, and the fact that it is now nominated for Best Campus News Coverage is an even bigger honor. Not only because of my involvement and the teamwork of the news department but also because of the story's importance and impact on real people,” says Birritteri.

Brave New Radio will be participating in an IBS panel discussion on March 4th sharing how they rebranded and rebuilt the station in 2021. The winners of the IBS Awards will be revealed during the 82nd annual virtual award ceremony on Saturday, March 5th.
