Nets Secure 7th Straight Win After Defeating Blue Coats
The Long Island Nets simply can’t be stopped. After pulling out a 119-113 victory at home against the Delaware Blue Coats, the team has now improved to 15-8 and are only two games behind Raptors 905 for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Coach Caporn said after the game that “the team obviously loves winning and is playing with a lot of confidence, they play with a very business-like approach” he said.
This being their seventh victory in a row, this win didn’t come as easy as expected with a 19 point lead going into the fourth quarter. Long Island also improved their record at home to an impressive 9-4.
The Nets had five players score in double figures, with Craig Randall II, Tyrone Wallace and Thon Maker all having at least 21 points. Randall II and Wallace were heavily relied upon combining for over 80 minutes while scoring 30 and 25 points respectively.
Maker’s 21 points and 11 rebounds played a major factor in the team’s win and he has now averaged 18.5 points and 10 rebounds coming off the bench in the last two games.
Coach Caporn went on to say that “we like having Thon come off the bench because it has clearly been working. Woodbury allows us to start out with lots of toughness and Thon can come off the bench with fresh legs and help push the pace.”
The loss for Delaware pushes them to 2.5 games out of first place with a 6-4 record on the road. Facing a 19 point deficit heading into the fourth quarter, the Blue Coats were able to bring the score within one possession at the end of the fourth quarter. Long Island’s emphatic 58 rebounds and 41% shooting percentage from behind the arc played a significant role in the team’s dominance in the first three quarters. Long Island’s ability to hit clutch free throws at the end of the game was the reason they maintained the lead despite 27 turnovers.
The Nets will look to continue their hot streak on Sunday as they’ll travel to Cleveland to face the Charge on Sunday.
