New Jersey Devils vs Columbus Blue Jackets

 Before The Game

The Devils so far have played eight games, five wins, and three losses, which is not bad for this season. The Columbus Blue Jackets are a different story though, with only three wins of the nine games they have played. It is not looking so hot for the Blue Jackets.

Slow Start, Big Ending

At the start of the 1st period, Jack Roslovic from the Blue Jackets won the face off against Nico Hischier from the Devils. The Blue Jackets were ready to win. Throughout the game, their offense came in with so much aggression, but would that help them? You would think that aggression is good for the game, and it is, but not all the time. The aggressive tactic made some of their players receive penalties and placement in the box, like Johnny Gaudreau from the Blue Jackets for hooking Nico Hischier. The last two minutes of the 1st period neared, and still no one scored. I thought this period was going to end with no one scoring, but Fabian Zetterlund scored a goal assisted by Nico Hischier. If you ask me, this goal was payback. The New Jersey Devils team and fans are fired up, ready to bring hell to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 1st period ended with the score being 1-0 Devils.

The Crowd Goes Wild

The 2nd period of the game started off strong for the Devils with Nico Hischier winning the face-off against Jack Roslovic, in revenge for the 1st period. Devils’ fans went wild, still reeling from that first goal. The atmosphere in the stadium made us, the first-time viewers, excited too. The wild energy was there to stay because a second goal was scored by Nico Hischier for the Devils. Not even a minute later, a third goal was scored for the Devils by Ryan Graves, assisted by Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes. The horns blared loudly, and you can imagine the crowd’s reaction. People yelled the iconic “Let’s go Devils” chant. Then, sadly, a goal was scored for the Blue Jackets by Yegor Chinakhov. It took me a minute to realize the Blue Jackets scored because of how silent the crowd was. Towards the end of the period, the crowd got their first intense fight from the players. It did not matter who was winning the fight, the crowd loved it and cheered. All good things ended when the referees broke up the fight and Devils player Nathan Bastian received a 2-minute penalty for slashing Blue Jackets player Elvis Merzlikins. On the bright side, Merzlikins received the same punishment. At the end of the period Devils player, Jon Marino, scored the fourth goal for the team. The game stood at 4-1 Devils. An incredible game so far for the New Jersey Devils.

Let’s Go Devils

The 3rd period started off terrible for the Blue Jackets with a 2-minute penalty for Boone Jenner for holding Devils player Damon Severson. Terrible luck for the Blue Jackets soon came crashing down on them when the Devils scored three goals in this period. Amazing work from Jonas Siegenthaler, who was assisted by Dawson Mercer and Erik Haula, bringing the score to 5-1. The second goal was made by Jesper Bratt, who was assisted by Jack Hughes and Tomas Tatar, making the score 6-1. The third goal was scored by Miles Wood, assisted by Nathan Bastian and Michael McLeod. An impressive lead from the Devils made it impossible for the Blue Jackets to catch up. With the game clock nearing zero I could hear the crowd counting down the seconds for the game to end. Finally, the horns blared, signaling the outstanding win from the New Jersey Devils. The game ended with 7-1 and the Devils team and fans went home satisfied.
