Lupe’s Local Listen: Melissa Cherie

If you needed a new indie pop-rock princess for all your moody blues, here’s one for you. Melissa Cherie brings all her feelings right to the table. The 2018 WPU Pop Music alum told me music for her is a way she can express herself freely- “The point is, you control the narrative, that gives me peace”. Melissa has an indie pop style reminiscent of Beach Bunny with a mix of Mitski. Speaking of Mitski, Melissa noted that the reason she decided to work on a solo project was because Mitski inspired her to. I saw Melissa perform this past summer outside of Clairmont Distillery which was one of her first shows since the Covid-19 pandemic. She has an electric feel to her, when you hear her sing and see her perform, she captivates you. Melissa brings a cinematic feel to her live performance and recordings that makes me think about Lana Del Rey’s first album Born To Die. The new wave and eclectic feel is what drew me into her music. If you’d like to listen to Melissa Cherie’s music (aka the Alanis Morrisette & Joni Mitchell love child) go check her out on all digital streaming platforms. You can also see her live, more info below!
