Lupe’s Local Listen: Young Benny

Young Benny is a former Kean University Football player turned local Hip-Hop star. From wide receiver to a rapper on the come up, he’s got a lot to say. At first glance Benny seems like a Lothario but he is way more than that. He is confident for a good reason, talking with Benny back at a MadMinds Takeover event at BoonTunes in 2020, he told me a lot of his friends didn’t really understand what he was doing with a music career.

His family is super supportive of his music and are ready to watch him challenge the odds and work his way up the ladder in music. I asked Benny what drove him to make music and he said “I’m not sure what drove me to make music anymore. I guess when I started it, it could have been the lifestyle that we see musicians living if they make it .. but that’s sorta of shifted since I still want those things. But music to me now is about touching people’s lives and making a difference in someone’s day .. I also really enjoy the studio process now”. Young Benny’s 5 year plan is he wants to be living off making music. I’m sure for him it will be an easy achievement. His new album “What Happens After Twelve” is a sure fire hit with hit singles such as “Catch Me Slippin”, “Important” and my personal favorite “Lets Link”. So, if you enjoy the likes of Jack Harlow and G-Eazy, you should give Young Benny a try.
