Dr. Rob Quicke and WP Students Send Messages of Support to Ukraine

Dr. Rob Quicke and his students from his Audio & Radio Production class.

Rob Quicke, professor of Communication, created a way for college radio stations worldwide to assist in sending support to Ukraine.

Quicke is one of the previous general managers of Brave New Radio and co-founder of College Radio Day. College Radio Day has been celebrated since its launch in 2010, giving worldwide college radio stations an annual day of celebration.

The unfortunate situations happening in Ukraine have been seen throughout the world. Using his platform and network, Quicke decided to reach out to several college radio stations in attempts of receiving international support to send to Ukraine. Quicke successfully received message submissions from college radio stations around the world including Canada, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Greece and Slovakia. Brave New Radio was one of many college radio stations that offered their support during this time. All messages were sent to StudRadio at the National University of Ostroh Academy in Ukraine.

Due to current circumstances, some students are staying in bomb shelters and therefore cannot access their studios for the time being. However, cell phones were used instead to produce these broadcasted pieces which aired for days throughout Ukraine, thanks to Quicke. Students in Ukraine responded with grace, “In this difficult time, we really need to know that we are not alone and we have support. We hope that your words will calm people’s hearts.”

Thanks to Rob Quicke and the power of college radio, Ukrainians now know the amount of worldwide support they have during this incredibly hard time.
